What Type Of Websites
You may have been surfing the internet. You may have visited various websites. What were you looking for? You could be looking for solutions to address some issues. You could be looking for information on how to do something. And what were your expectation when you landed on these websites? You want a relevant and authentic information.
That’s it! you want to create a website that is relevant and authentic so that your visitors felt that his or her needs are fulfilled. In turn, they will continue to visit your website.
How To Create A Relevant Websites
In my opinion there are 2 main methods to create a relevant website.
- Create your website based on a subject that you have passion for, that you have knowledge of. If you have passion in that particular subject, your website will definitely be interesting and informative.
- Go to Mr. Google to find a niche or a subject that people are searching for information.
I will not elaborate on the 1st option, where you choose your passion and build your website around it. I will share with you on the 2nd option, where you seek Mr. Google’s help.
Let’s say you want to help people on how to lose weight. So go to google and key in “how to lose”. You will see numerous “how to lose …..” show up. See illustration.
You may go with “how to lose weight” which is quite broad and general. You may want to go more specific like “how to lose belly fat” or “how to lose arm fat”. Let’s say you choose “how to lose belly fat” which is a common problem nowadays. Now you would take this phrase to a keyword search software to find out whether there are great competition on the internet providing solutions to this problem. See illustration below for sample of keyword search using a proprietary software available HERE.
By looking at this keyword search, you will notice that if you go with “how to lose belly fat” only, you will have great competition. But if you add another word to the phrase, selecting “how to lose belly fat for men” or any others on the list, you will have greater chance of attracting visitors to your website, thereby making money for yourself.
Now that you have an idea of what content to fill up on your website, you will have to find a place to park your website (website hosting) and give your website a name. There are numerous website hosting company. Some are paid and some provide free hosting.
Below is an example of company providing free website hosting. Listed 2 hosting company here, but you may find more if you do a search.
Webhost domain name or your own domain name
Example of webhost domain name is email@example.com. You usually do not have to pay for this name and web hosting. The clear advantage is, it is FREE of charges. However, you may not get full support to assist you when you are stuck with file upload and other similar problem. Besides, you don’t own the name, which mean you are not able to move to other web hosting company. In which case, you will lose all your site contents.
Further, if you intent to make money from your website, you will find that you may have a lot of disadvantage, especially at Google site ranking. Your website may not reach top 5 or 10 pages on Google search. Remember your website is your presence on the internet, and the name is your brand.
Registering for your own domain name will cost you between $5 to $10 a year and hosting your website will cost you another $5 to $10 a month, depending on the plan you choose. Yes, it will cost you about $70 to $100 a year to maintain your own domain name and website hosting. This is just a basic cost not inclusive any add on and plug-in for site security and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) capability. You may want to do some comparison of a few websites hosting companies, to ensure you select one with good support, good speed and low site downtime.
Your own domain name will greatly improve your brand image and you also have the freedom of moving your website to any other web hosting company if you choose to. You will not lose you Google ranking and traffic that you have build.
Your website content
Go back to the example mentioned earlier about “how to lose belly fat for men”. Remember you don’t need to be a writer to write out your website content. All you need is some research fact that you can communicate, yes! communicate to your audience just like you communicate to your friends. People come to your website is to seek help or solutions to solve their problem. If you are able to provide that, then you will have repeat visitors. But remember, do not copy and paste your website content from another website. If you are caught doing that, you will lose your Google ranking and may not be even listed in any search engine.
What I learn was not to do hard selling in my website content. Put emphasis on helping people solving their problem or meet their needs for visiting my website.
In conclusion, it is not your domain name that draws people to your website. It is your post contents that draws them and will continue to bring them back for more information. Your Google rank will also be higher if your site is known for helping or bring solutions to those people seeking it.
